Tilbury Port’s site-specific installation is an immersive visual art experience in one of the original walkways where Windrush passengers arrived in 1948. Panes of glass collage with photographs, documents, and original boat passenger tickets in a 55 metres long bridge. As viewers walk through, they can listen to audio stories about the lives of some of the elders who feature in the exhibition. The piece makes a unique statement, remembering the lives of those who came from the Caribbean, “who carried their British passports proudly as British citizens with hope and expectation.”
