Jingyi Wang’s artworks focus on the relationship between nature and culture, and whether the two are synonymous. Observation and perception are the source of her creation. She associates the fragile with the acute, the serious with the humorous, the poignant with the longing. For Wang, cacti signify the intimate intersubjectivity of humanity – including the subtle psychologies of anxiety and a feeling of helplessness. Through bold colours and surreal anthropomorphised plant-beings, Wang extends the possibility of bodies – between the ground and mother nature – creating a space for dialogue and collaboration amongst humans and nature.
